Too Good to be True?
This is what we, the Directors of Abelglass thought when we came across a Canadian Website promoting the repair (as opposed to replacement) of failed, or as some people call them steamed up, double glazed units. After numerous talks and presentations via the internet we decided to go to Canada and see for ourselves!
True and Correct!
We visited a home in Ottawa where there were many unsightly failed units, the Crystal Clear Window Works technician drilled a very small hole in the top and bottom of the unit, sprayed the cleaning and drying agents into the unit and then fitted a micro de-fogger valve and seal. It worked! It was clear, like a new unit, all done quickly with no new glass required; also the work was done from the outside. We were so impressed we bought a dealership! As customers may know, we have been trading continuously for 29 years and we have never seen anything like this within the glass industry! The process is 30%-50% cheaper than unit replacement as new glass is not required.

Why a Unit Fails.
Due to atmospheric pressure and radiant heat from the sun, the unit is constantly expanding and contracting thus acting like a pump slowing sucking in and then releasing air from between the panes of a sealed unit. Eventually the silica gel (desiccant) that is within the spacer bar becomes saturated, therefore cannot draw any more moisture from the air within the unit, the result is condensation between the panes!
